Hippie Clothes & Handmade Patchwork Clothing
About Me
Hello! So I guess you would like to know a little about me. Well, my name is Marsha and I have been sewing now for about seven years. Most of what I learned is through trial and error. I have never taken any kind of formal sewing class, but I have had a few great pointers, here and there.
I remember the first time I really wanted to sew. It was probably twelve years or so ago. I remember looking for handmade goods myself at a dead lot. I met this girl who was probably in her early 20's. She had all kinds of articles of clothing piled up in her VW bus and was pulling stuff out for me to see. I remember being so impressed with all the stuff she had made. I bought a dress from her and put it on and felt so beautiful wearing it. I remember thinking how cool it would be, to be able to make clothing for others to enjoy while making a living at the same time. I had never sewn a stitch in my life though, so I didn't put much thought into really doing it.
A few years later, the thought came around again so I asked for a sewing machine for Christmas. I started making stuff for myself at first. When I look back now on the things I made in the beginning, I just want to laugh out loud. 'Did I really wear that in public?' I think to myself. I hope that my skills continue to grow and that every few years, I ask myself that same question.
Right now, I live right outside of Atlanta, in the burbs. I have a great husband (Matt) who coincidentally happens to be my best friend and biggest fan. If it wasn't for much encouragement and support from him, I would not be doing what I am doing today! We have two of the sweetest cats in the world (Simon & Geronimo) and they love this song 'Our house is a very, very, very fine house. With two cats in the yard' They demand our full attention whenever we are home. But we don't mind giving it to them. I mean, look at their faces.
Matt spends his free time playing drums with his band, Sound of Seventy-Three. He also dabbles in photography, taking photos mostly of nature. We are lucky enough to have access to a lovely mountain cabin up in the Tennessee. There are so many hiking trails and little waterfalls everywhere, so there are many photo opportunities!
Of course we enjoy going to shows whenever possible. Here we are at the Coventry Show (with our hand-made flag!) And check out this sunrise (from Big Cypress) - it doesn't get much more beautiful that that. If you live in the SE, chances are we'll soon be coming to a lot near you! Come look for me ~ I would love to meet you!!
As of the beginning of 2004, I have been lucky enough to be able to start sewing full time. I feel very blessed for this. I would like to thank everyone who has encouraged me in my sewing - I love all of you! Thanks to Matt for making this site. (You rock!) And a big THANK YOU to you for supporting an independent artist! Without You I wouldn't be here!
Kyndest Regards,
